A Little Touch of Hawaii March 11, 2010 G. Roberti (Brick, NJ) I want to start out by saying this is not a 100% Kona coffee filled K-cup, that would cost way too much. But, what we have here is a medium/dark roasted coffee that uses the Kona bean to take the bitter, rough edges off an Extra Bold (darker roasted) style coffee. They call it Extra Bold, which it probably is...but the smooth, buttery taste of the Kona bean tames this quite a bit to make a nice, deep favored cup of coffee that is great if enjoyed black or with cream. Folks, just because it says 'Extra Bold' means that it has to be that tar-like flavored coffee that they serve at Starbucks!
If you've had the pleasure of drinking a cup of 100% Estate Grown Kona coffee, you would understand this concept in your first sip of this great K-cup. As a home roaster, I buy this type of green bean in the late Fall-early Winter every year and roast up a few batches now and then for visitors to my house. Once brewed, you can drink this coffee without sugar, cream, any anything! It's sweet, buttery, silky taste is a true delight.
NOW, take that taste profile of the 100% Kona bean and add a little bit of it (5%-15%) to a darker roasted coffee and you have the coffee I described above....very simple folks! Believe me, try this K-cup as you won't be disappointed if you like a mildly sweet, medium roasted, not-in-your-face heavy cup of coffee. Cheers!
PS: Try this tip when you buy ANY coffee, whether it's a K-cup, or whole bean ground coffee. After you brew it, taste it black without anything added to it...I know, I know, it's a little weird, but give your taste buds a chance to acclimate to the taste. You'll be amazed how easy it is to rate a cup of coffee at this level. Once you take a few sips of it black and figure it out in your mouth, add your regular stuff and proceed as normal!...LOL. Over time you will learn more about coffee and it's different varieties and tastes....kinda fun!
Great Full Flavor Coffee at a great price!! March 6, 2010 F. C. Wilson (Dover, NH) We got the Keurig coffee maker for Christmas...and I had a bad attitude since I thought the K-cups were too expensive. However, after using it for the past few months I have been very pleased with several brands...But this Kona Blend really knocks my socks off..beautiful aroma and flavor. At $.42 a cup is a real bargain. I add cream and a little sweetner (I'm a sissy, no black for me) and I know that I've not had a better coffee anywhere. So give this a try, you won't be disappointed.
Simply My Favorite March 6, 2010 M. Levine (Voorhees, NJ) Ok, I'm a coffee head. I enjoy drinking coffee for its taste, often 4-6 cups a day, sometimes more. I think Coffee People Kona is hands down the best coffee I've had the pleasure of tasting for 35 years. I've tried all of the caffeinated brands of coffee made for the Keurig and still come back to Coffee People Kona as my #1 choice.
Everyone has a preference. My reasons for enjoying this coffee over all others starts with the bean. Kona beans have higher amounts of moisture and natural sugars that are released during the baking process. When done correctly, the bitterness is diminished and the full sweetness, oils and body of the bean come forth, and they got it right!
I prefer less acidic and smoother tasting coffee and by its classification you would expect Coffee People Kona "Extra Bold" to have that real strong, bold taste, but it doesn't. In fact, due to the bean processing, this coffee is more on the medium side. The classification isn't wrong. It's bold, but not one-sided. It has other equally strong characteristics that even out the taste and texture.
You may read other reviews that pan these aspects of Coffee People Kona. Extra Bold does not mean bitter, does not mean burnt, and does not mean acidic. For me, this coffee has the ideal balance of taste, aroma, and body together with a natural sweetness.
What makes the best cup for you?
Absolutely Delicious! March 5, 2010 ChanaB (Brooklyn, NY) This coffee is one of the best I've tried for the Keurig machine. Sweet, strong and smooth, it needs no milk or sugar to give you a wonderfully tasty coffee experience.
Perfect Coffee For Me! February 26, 2010 Diane Cunningham (Poway, CA USA) Coffee People Kona Blend Extra Blend is smooth and is a perfect choice for me!
