I have been using this product for 3 weeks now and it works great. Of course the diapers aren't stinky yet, so I can't rate how well it keeps the smell in, but it is very functional. I love that you step on the lever to open the bin so I don't have touch where the dirty diapers have been. Also, we are still on the first refill bag after 3 weeks. The only problem I have run in to is that sometimes when I put a big diaper in, it doesn't let it fall through like it should and the lid sticks open - when that happens I have to sometimes push it through. Overall, I am very satisfied with the purchase!

This is soooooo much better than just a regular trash can. It is very easy to operate, I love the foot pedal....truly is hands free operation. Emptying it out is a snap too. We never smell anything!! Worth the money.

this works great for us :) Refill costs seem to add up over time, but everything about babies are expensive. We go through about 1 refill per month, so $6. Only a 3 month old so less will probably fit later, though we're switching to cotton babies cloth diapers soon.

What was I thinking trying to be an elitist? I'm just a regular guy and have suffered the consequences to no end.
We had a Diaper Genie II and the lid got cracked. I finally decided to not be a cheapskate and bought a Genie II Elite last week. I couldn't be more disappointed. It is nice that it has a foot pedal, but the mechanism that opens the door on top while simultaneously closing off the dirty diapers is pathetic. It is completely useless in holding in the odor and every time we open it the room smells terrible for hours. I wish I had a way of returning this or exchanging for a regular Genie II. I feel totally gypped. ;-(

If the unit gets over-filled in the slightest or if you press down on the pedal too vigorously the latches that operate the mechanism get unhooked. It is infuriating and nearly impossible to get them re-latched. I had the original Diaper Genie for kid #1 and never had these problems. I finally ended up breaking this Diaper Genie trying to get the latches re-latched. It will be replaced by a system from another manufacturer. This is a very dad-unfriendly product.
