It's no Bariani, but.. July 27, 2010 Shayla Roberts (OK, USA) I usually use Bariani of California, and that stuff is like GOLD. You could sip it from a spoon, no kidding. But there is no way would I ruin the delicate flavor by heating it or cooking with it, though. So I tried Zoe Organic EVOO, really not expecting much, hoping it would be "good enough" for baking and stir-frying. I was really pleasantly surprised! It is stronger than I'm used to, but still mild enough to not overpower things like pie crusts and cookies. I am back to renew my subscription for this great, all purpose EVOO!
Hope you have oil can or something July 19, 2010 Brandon Thomson Good stuff -- but make sure you have a bottle to decant into. You will just make a mess if you try to pour from this container.
Fine Organic Oil February 25, 2010 harleydavidson11 (Franklin, WI) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm sure I'll reorder this product. I cook quite a bit with Olive Oil...everything from Veggies, to Pancakes, to Burgers, and Steaks. For cooking, it's tasty without any suprises. Raw out of the bottle it has a bit of taste/zing to the back of the throat... a bit of burn. That is entirely natural, and due to a naturally occuring penolic chemical in Olive Oil called Oleocanthal. If your olive oil doesn't zing or burn the back of your throat, then it probably is a washed out, watered down version of the real deal. Zoe has done a superb job here with Organic Oil at reasonable price. Choose Zoe Organic, and be happy. I recently read an article about a vinyard in Italy that had some 500 Olive trees. Due to weather conditions, roughly half produced annually. Many of the trees were over 250 years old. Olive trees live 500-900 years, and some in Syria are as old as 1,500 years. Anyways, the point is this. With a crop of 500 trees, rough weather can produce 300 liters of pure organic olive oil. The average tree in normal conditions will produce about 4 lieters of oil. The current price you see for something like this Zoe Organic product is a steal.
Use Zoe for baking February 21, 2010 B. Riter (Harrisburg, PA) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Zoe is made from big fat olives that are meaty and buttery tasting. When my husband and I went to the Pennsylvania Macaroni Company in Pittsburgh, PA, the olive oil buyer guided us through our first olive oil purchase. She had us eat the olives that went into different kinds of olive oil and then pick the olives we liked best. Our first purchase of Zoe was the result. It is an olive oil with a distinctly buttery taste. I use it in baking cakes whenever oil or melted butter is called for. It tastes great! Absolutely great! Plus, it's heart healthy, which butter is not. Sigh. Other olives, particularly Italian olives that are made into olive oil are very peppery. Hence, their oil is peppery. This might be what other people are talking about when they say they don't like Zoe. Zoe is not a bit peppery. So please, you must try for yourself in this case. It is not a good idea to take anyone else's product review for olive oil to heart. (a pun!) You must decide what you like in an olive oil and buy according. Also, I want to mention that the buttery taste stays there even through a saute. We bought different types of Italian olive oil in smaller bottles that same first time at the Pennsylvania Macaroni Company, and then we came home and made fried eggs with all of them. In that venue the taste of the olive oils really came through and Zoe kept that buttery taste. Good eating!
